Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph in motion Terms of Reference

 

Introduction

The purpose of the Advisory Table is to act as a "think tank" for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph (WDG) in motion, informing and collaborating on strategies and actions based on the members’ knowledge, skills and sphere of influence.

Structure

The Advisory Table shall be comprised of CIM’s (Communities in motion teams), municipalities, agencies and those who have an interest /expertise in the regional objectives.

Meetings will be held quarterly

Teleconferences or e-mail communication may be required between the meetings as the need arises

Amendments to the Terms of Reference may be recommended at any time by a majority of the members and submitted for approval by the WDG in motion Partnership Table

There will be a maximum of 12 members.

 

Responsibilities

Influence and enable partnerships that positively influence physical activity levels across WDG

Receive reports from the CIM’s and partners and provide feedback on them

Coordinator’s work plan is first endorsed by the Public Health Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention Manager; then presented to the Advisory Table for input, strategy development and endorsement

Support the incubation granting process, as required

Ensure the mission, vision and values of WDG in motion are upheld

Assist with appropriate communication to partners and affiliates

Maintain the in motion licensing agreement

Chair is appointed annually.

 

Records of Meetings

The minutes of each meeting will be kept by the recording secretary who shall distribute them to the members as soon after the meeting as possible. The responsibility for recording the minutes will be shared amongst the members, alphabetically by last name.

 

WDG in motion is a regional collaborative with an Advisory Table, a Partnership Table & a full-time Coordinator, led by WDG Public Health. The Coordinator is responsible for enabling local action, building capacity & facilitating WDG in motion reaching its’ goals across the region.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph (WDG) will be a physically active, healthy community.

WDG in motion is leading the way to a physically active, healthy WDG by:

Building long-term and meaningful partnerships

Encouraging the development of healthy communities that support physical activity

Supporting local opportunities for residents to be physically active; and

Removing barriers to physical activity.

The goals of WDG in motion are to:

Increase access to recreation;

Design communities that allow citizens to safely commute to and from work, school or play by walking or cycling;

Increase residents physical activity rates thereby decreasing heart disease, obesity and cancer risk; and

Create policies to support residents being active.

Guiding Principles:

We understand that increasing physical activity is a complex issue

We work within our capacities & resources

We leverage existing efforts & look for opportunities to partner

We strive to model our vision within our own organizations

We learn together & engage in knowledge transfer

We manage our growth

We measure progress & celebrate success.

Purpose:

To achieve the mission of WDG in motion, the partnership network is open to anyone who has an interest in increasing physical activity rates in WDG. The partners will:

Provide input into the regional plan by identifying local needs

at the Advisory Table

Participate in regional information sharing, professional development and knowledge transfer

Present their work plans

Maintain the integrity of the in motion licensing agreement

Synchronize messages, events and initiatives with affiliates who have similar interests or goals

Champion in motion & in motion Week with partners and potential partners.

Meetings:

Meetings to be held in May and November annually
